Culture coaches still needed by Duffy students in West Hartford

"We do need more volunteers to help and review the information, including some welcoming, conversational phrases," said Taylor, who was excited that she might have a line on a Russian coach "who seems like a dynamo."The students have used the results from a town-wide exploration project to focus on a plan to make West Hartford a more welcoming place while crossing the cultural-language barrier. 

Students presented their solutions to the West Hartford Town Council recently, including a plan to add translation devices and posters with information helpful to newcomers and people without computer access in the main offices at town hall. 

The translation device would be a public access computer with a restricted interface and secured in the offices of the town clerk, leisure services, social services, main desk, and residency front desk area," said Taylor. 

"Residents who do not speak English, or do not have Internet or computer access yet could find out about our town and register for services," Taylor said. Continued...
